Watchers Poetry

We read the poem 'Watchers' by Martha Morseth and went through and identified the time words and the verbs (doing words).  We are now writing a poem using Martha's as an inspiration.  Here are some of the first verses we wrote.  The finished poems are published on our learning blogs.

At midnight a hawk
glided to my window,
and scratched against
the glass.

By Maddox

At night time a spider
climbed up its web
and one-eyed me
through the window.

By Joshua

At midnight a possum
climbed a tree and
was staring at me
for hours while
I was sleeping.

By Lexis

In the afternoon a bird
swooped down and
landed on a branch
and peeped in the window,
looking at me drinking
my refreshing juice.

Undersea Cooperative Drawing

We are working in groups to draw an undersea landscape.  Some groups worked really well sharing their ideas and letting everyone contribute.  We will share our pictures when they are finished.

I Will Never Eat That Again!

We read the story 'I Will Not Ever Never Eat a Tomato' by Lauren Child and we looked at some of the stories on 'Room 12 Kids at Work' blog.  We then talked about what food we don't like eating and wrote about a food we don't like eating and why.  Some children wrote about a time they had to eat it recounting an event or using their imagination.

You can read our stories in our individual learning blogs.  We would love to hear some of the things you don't like eating and why.

Seahorse Art

seahorse
We used 'Seahorse by David Cobb' as an inspiration for our artworks. First we drew a sketch in our sketching book, then copied that onto art paper.  We drew over the outline in vivid and then coloured them in with colouring pencils.  We dyed the background and then presented our artwork as a postage stamp.  You can see our individual pictures in our learning blogs.

5 Sentence Challenge

We had a 5 sentence challenge in writing.  We had to write 5 sentences about this picture.

I can see a nice, bright yellow banana and there is also a friendly caterpillar with a ladybug on a lead. There is even a little pear house.  These is also a secret place underground and there is also a little boat.  There is even little onion houses with lights on.  I also saw a gnome.
By Kennedy

Far, far, far away in the little garden is a nice, juicy pear house that a caterpillar lives in.  The caterpillar decided to take a walk down the garden with his pet ladybug.  Close to the pear house there is a banana house.  There are underground houses too.  One of the underground houses has a little black boat.
By Tate

There is a pear that has a window with a leaf shaped door.  The banana has two windows and they are shaped like a circle.  Under the ground there is a village that looks like a river and it has a paddling boat.  A caterpillar is walking a spotty red ladybird.  I can see some light coming out of the beetroot.
