Hundertwasser Art

This week we created art work using coloured pencils, vivids and dye.  Our art work is inspired by an Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser's paintings of buildings.  Here is some of our work.  You can see the rest in our individual blogs.

Measuring Out Buildings and Giants

We are learning about metres in maths.  Today we went outside and used chalk to draw a building and a giant.  First we had to work as a group and draw a building that was 2 metres high and 1 metre  wide.  Next we had to draw a giant that was 3 1/2 metres tall.  Only two groups managed to successfully complete their giant in the given time.

Planning and drawing together.

Measuring the roof.
Working well helping each other.

A successful building!

This group had to readjust their roof height.

Yeah! A successful completion of a giant.

Didn't we do a great job?

LEARNZ Field Trip to Christchurch Airport

Christchurch International Airport is the gateway to Christchurch and the South Island.  Up to six million passengers travel in and out of the airport each year.  It is also the largest single place for people to work in the South Island.  For three days we will have special security clearance to go to the airport and find out what happens behind the scenes at New Zealand's second largest international airport.

We are going to being going on the LEARNZ field trip by watching the videos and reading the diaries starting tomorrow.  We will share some things we learn with you soon.

Brianna's Home Learning Story

Great to see Brianna practising her writing for Home Learning.  Here is her story.

Today my nanny and I went to the Food Show and I loved it.  First I went to a chocolate stall and I liked it so so so so so so much. When we were going to go I saw Jordan and Nickki from Masterchef.  I talked to Jordan and she is so cool.  Nanny bought me the biggest hot dog.  We had to get something for Cohen because he wanted to go to.  We got Cohen two pieces of fudge.  I  was so fascinated at some smoked eggs but Nanny did not buy me some but the man gave me some.  I wanted to get Daddy some licorice but Nanny didn't buy some.  I loved it so much.

Fun Run

Here are our 8 year olds who had to run around the block.  Lots of our 7 year olds left early with their parents so there was no time for a photo unfortunately. Well done Lucas W who came 2nd in the 7 year old boys and Marshall who was 3rd in the 8 year old boys.

Calendar Art

Here are some examples of finished art work.

Calendar Art

For our calendar art we had lots of steps to follow.

First we had to fold a crease in our paper and measure down 5cm from the top on the crease and make a dot.

We then measured up and down and across from the dot 5cm each way  and put dots.  We repeated on the diagonal to make *.  We joined the ends with curves to make an umbrella.

We painted our umbrella.

We drew a person and coloured the person with coloured pencil.  We used white crayon to draw raindrops.
Lastly we dyed the background.

Gravity Floater

Kacey bought along some exciting news.  She is floating the green ball and red plastic plate.  How do you think she is doing it?

Cloudy Lesson Stories

We watched 'A Cloudy Lesson' clip on The Literacy Shed and then retold the story.

Picture

A Cloudy Lesson by Marshall

One day a boy and his grandad both climbed onto a platform on top of a primary coloured house.  Grandad pulled out a spruce wood case and opened it.  Out came a pole with a hole in it.  Grandad blew and he made a massive cloud then he offered the boy a turn and he blew ever harder and out came … a teeny, tiny little cloud.
Grandad said, “Blow even harder.”
So the boy blew even more and then nothing came out, so he tried again but he knocked it over and it bent.  The boy tried to make it into its original form but he couldn’t do it.  Then an idea light bulb appeared in his head.  The boy transformed the cloud maker into a star shaped cloud maker.  Grandad blew and he made a star shaped cloud then the boy made a bunny, so Grandad blew again and he made a bunny shaped cloud.  Last of all the boy made a heart and blew… and said at once “I love you.”

A Cloudy Lesson by Quinn

“Where are we going Grandad?”
“Jake we’re going right up there,” said Grandad.
“Wow.  It will take for ever,” said Jake so they climbed to the platform.  Finally they reached the top.  Then Jake’s Grandad opened a mysterious wooden case then carefully lifted a cloud blower out.  Then Grandad blew a fat, fluffy cloud.  Jake asked Grandad if he could have a turn so Jake had a turn and blew a tiny, tiny cloud.  Jake was confused and so was his Grandad.  Then Grandad said to Jake, “Take a deeper breath.”  So he did but this time he was leaning onto the cloud blower and … it snapped.  Crash!!  Grandad asked if Jake was all right.  They both looked at the cloud maker.  Grandad was sad but Jake had an idea.  He stretched and turned the cloud maker and made a star.  “Wow!” said Grandad.
Then Jake offered Grandad a turn to blow it, then they sat on the deck and looked at all the clouds they had made.

A Cloudy Lesson by Vincent

One cloudy day a little boy and his grandfather went climbing a wooden ladder.  They climbed to a platform and grandfather lay down an oak case.  The grandfather pulled out a rusty cloud maker.  The grandfather put the cloud maker in a hole.  Grandfather blew directly in the middle of the cloud maker.  A fluffy cloud came out.  The boy blew in the cloud maker and he made a little could.  He was disappointed.  He blew and blew and blew and he bent it.  He was worried then an idea popped into his head.  He bent the cloud maker into a star.  The grandfather blew in the star and a cloud came out.  Then the boy bent it into a bunny.  The grandfather blew a bunny cloud out then the boy bent it into a love heart.  The boy blew a little love heart then they sat on the platform looking at the clouds.

Wild Self

Wildself Image

I saw the Wild Self, Eva from Room 9 at Vardon created and thought it looked like fun.  You might want to have a go at creating one yourself.
