Adding Detail to our Writing and Pictures

I wrote a story about a pirate and the children decided that my story could be better because I only used simple sentences and didn't include any detail.  They are rewriting my stories.  As we finish them we will publish them in our learning blogs. Kacey, Maddox, Macie and Petra's are published.

This was my story...
Once there was a pirate.  He went on a boat.  He saw an island.  The pirate landed on the island.  He found some treasure.

Have a read on the learning blogs and see if the children managed to improve my story.

We are also drawing pictures of the pirate in our story, making sure we add detail to our drawings.  We will share these soon.

Kidsedchatnz

We had a busy afternoon tweeting!  Our topic this week was rules.  Before lunch we watched a little cartoon about rules and talked through the Kidsedchatnz questions to prepare our ideas for this afternoon.  It was great to see the children supporting each other in writing their tweets.

Watchers Poetry

We read the poem 'Watchers' by Martha Morseth and went through and identified the time words and the verbs (doing words).  We are now writing a poem using Martha's as an inspiration.  Here are some of the first verses we wrote.  The finished poems are published on our learning blogs.

At midnight a hawk
glided to my window,
and scratched against
the glass.

By Maddox

At night time a spider
climbed up its web
and one-eyed me
through the window.

By Joshua

At midnight a possum
climbed a tree and
was staring at me
for hours while
I was sleeping.

By Lexis

In the afternoon a bird
swooped down and
landed on a branch
and peeped in the window,
looking at me drinking
my refreshing juice.
